Studied Journalism with the University of Pittsburgh and was their movie critic/entertainment reporter for about year. Unfortunately, by the time I graduated, the economy was going belly up and I had to find another line of work. Years later, someone recommended this to me and I decided why not? Let’s bust the cobwebs and start writing again.
The basics of why I’m doing this; I enjoy movies and games. They’re a great escape from the daily grind, but they’re also fun to dissect, whether solo or with some friends. However, have you seen your local store’s entertainment shelves? It can be overwhelming to say the least. With this, I hope to check out all sorts of great pieces of entertainment, old or new. Care to join me?
So, the hell do you know?
Is that really your name?
I’d be a lot cooler if it was.
Why movie and game reviews? Aren’t there enough of those bloggers online already?
Yup there is, and many are much better at it than me, but so what? It’s what I know and what I wanted to do, so I finally figured why not? I almost consider it a civic duty to deter certain hapless individuals from some of the garbage out there.
What systems do you own?
Currently I own a PS4, a four year old gaming PC, Wii U, N64, Sega Dreamcast and Genesis. Hope to expand that soon.
Where did you get a Genesis?
Kinda funny story. A buddy of mine is in the military and was tasked with a bunch of people to clear out an old warehouse on his base (one of those unclassified ones out in the open: not the cool Area 51 type of warehouse). He was cleaning some old filing cabinet and happened upon it. Once he saw it wasn’t part of the inventory and didn’t have any tags suggesting it was military property, he gave it to me. It came complete with controllers, cables and even a few sports games. I cleaned it off, plugged it in and squee’d with joy when I realized it was still functional. Wound up buying about $70 worth of games for it on Amazon.
Do you have an older TV to play your older systems?
You mean one of those old school Zenith models that double as a kitchen table? I wish. It was a problem for a time where I couldn’t get the Genesis or N64 systems to display anything on my TV (which is a Samsung LCD by the way). Turns out all I needed was a digital upscaler. Older systems’ video signals are a resolution newer TVs can’t read, so if you have a similar problem, sign on to Amazon and look for “digital upscaler.”
Will you post reviews of movies in theaters?
Once in a while, yes. Bear in mind, this is more of a hobby for me and I’m not being paid for it. Movie tickets are expensive, and not having popcorn while enjoying the latest Hollywood blockbuster is blasphemy.
Well, I guess the more honest answer is I don’t like the theater experience. I may get into that in a future blog post.
What’s your favorite movie of all time?
The Birdcage with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. I can never get enough of it.
What about your favorite game?
Oi, might be easier to narrow it down to my top ten: Borderlands 2, Fallout 3, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Bloodborne, Skies of Arcadia, Banjo Kazooie, Undertale, Rayman Legends, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Mario World.
